Drew Stockstill preaching "The World Flipped - Turned Upside Down"

Texts: Jeremiah 23: 1-6; Luke 23:33-43

LAY READER
In keeping with the Presbyterian tenet of the priesthood of all believers, Morningside members participate regularly in worship leadership. This Sunday's lay reader is Nancy Hamilton.
SANCTUARY FLOWERS
The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God and in celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary by Jack and Jill Klotz.
WELCOME GUEST ORGANIST
Today, we welcome Rachel Ficklin as guest organist while Sarah and Gene Martin are in Virginia spending Thanksgiving with their daughter. Rachel is a member of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and does organist substitute work in the greater Atlanta area.
TODAY’S SERVICE MUSIC
The prelude and postlude are settings of hymns for Christ the King Sunday and for Thanksgiving written by American composers. The offertory is the Prelude from “Mendelssohn’s Prelude and Fugue in G Major.” Mendelssohn wrote three Preludes and Fugues, all inspired by J.S. Bach.
RETREATS PAST AND FUTURE
For retreaters who want to remember the good time we had last month, or for those who might be interested in attending next year’s retreat, Lloyd Prince will show his retreat pictures during Fellowship today. Next year’s all church retreat will be October 17-19, 2014.
YOUNG ADULTS
Following worship today the Young Adults will meet for lunch at George’s (1041 N. Highland Ave. NE, 404.892.3648). Please join us.
YOUTH GROUP
Youth are invited to join us in the loft every Sunday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. for doughnuts and a craft or game. The youth will meet this evening from
5 to 7 p.m., and then break for Thanksgiving weekend. Mark your calendars for our Christmas party on Sunday, December 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. The youth and their advisors are encouraged to bring a wrapped gift ($10) for a “white elephant” exchange at the party. RSVP to Chris Peters  chrispeters @morningsidepc.org for the party and also if you can help with chili and soup dinner on Sunday evening December 15 as this month's service event.
NEW “OUR DAILY BREAD” AVAILABLE
Copies of the devotional booklet, Our Daily Bread, (December through February) are available in the Narthex and Welcome Center. Pick one up as you leave the sanctuary this morning.
FAMILY CHRISTMAS TREE
This year in the Fellowship Hall, we will have a large, live tree to hold your special ornaments. We're inviting each member of our faith community to contribute one, non-breakable ornament to decorate this tree. Place your special ornament in the collection baskets around the church (December 1-15).
ANNUAL CANNED FOOD COLLECTION
Our annual collection of non-perishable items for the Atlanta Community Food Bank is in full swing. Mac 'n cheese, peanut butter, canned veggies, meats, fruits and low sugar whole grain cereals are welcome. Help us fill our five canisters by December 15!

FREE HOLIDAY BABYSITTING
‘Tis the season of giving! Do you have two to four hours to give on Monday, December 2 (4:40-6:40 p.m., 6:20-8:20 p.m. or 4:40-8:05 p.m.)? We will offer free babysitting to our community for children 3 months through 5th grade. (Little ones must sign up by tomorrow, November 25.)  Help us line up volunteers for the event BEFORE the Thanksgiving holiday by signing up today. To sign up your child or to volunteer, contact Jennifer James jennjames@comcast.net ASAP!
THEOLOGY ON TAP
Our next Theology on Tap will be Tuesday, December 3, at 7 p.m.  Our host will be Peter Cobb  (1150 St. Charles Place, 30306). RSVP to the church office@morningsidepc.org.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
The evening of December 15 will be filled with Christmas magic so you won’t want to miss MPC’s annual Christmas Pageant at 5 p.m. followed by the soup and chili dinner and Carol Sing in Fellowship Hall.
BEHIND-THE-SCENES OF THE PAGEANT
Many thanks to the eleven youth who have volunteered to be the stage crew for MPC’s pageant.  We are still seeking people to sew one costume each. There will be a work evening for props and the set on Thursday, December 5 at 5 p.m. We are seeking someone to organize the soup/chili dinner that follows the pageant on Sunday evening, December 15. Additional youth will help to set up, serve and clean up for the event as their December service project. Contact Melinda to help in any of these areas.
TALK BACK TO THE PREACHER
If you've ever wanted to ask Baron more about something he's preached, or to hear what scripture teaches about something, and you don't happen to find yourself in a class or have the right moment, you are invited to come to Room 201 following worship on December 8.  We can talk about whatever you want to talk about - the sermon, the way we plan worship, what's going on in the Presbytery, or whatever! This is your chance.
MUSIC NOTES
The Cherub Choir will sing at worship on Sunday, December 8, and the Children’s Choir families will serve at Journey on Sunday evening, December 8. We will enjoy a special music Sunday on Dec-ember 15 at the 11 a.m. worship.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT WOMEN'S SHELTER
Morningside will provide volunteers at Shearith Israel's Women's Shelter again this year as part of our mission outreach program. The individual commitment this year is easier than in years past.  Volunteers serve from 6 to 8 p.m. warming up the dinner meal (provided by others) and serving as the women arrive from their daily work or job searches.  The kitchen is cleaned up before leaving. Our volunteer dates are:  January 8-12 and February 5-9.  If you can help on any of these dates, please e-mail Phyllis Grimes at grimes2230@bellsouth.net.  Men are welcome to serve also. There is also a need for donations of mittens, gloves, and hats.  Collection baskets will soon be in MPC’s Welcome Center for your donations through Sunday, December 15.
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS
Last Sunday, MPC welcomed the following new members: Greg and Julie Brow, Peter Chatel, Ted and Catherine Fleming, and Lisa and Preston Ladds. Be sure to give them a warm welcome the next time you are here!
CHURCH OFFICE
The church office will be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Christian Education at Morningside
CHARLES DICKENS "A CHRISTMAS CAROL" AND THE BIBLE
Next Sunday, get into the Christmas spirit this year with the joint adult education class led by Drew and Ellen Stockstill and Joseph Brady. This class will be held each Sunday in December in Room 201 at 9:45 a.m. All are invited to join us and to bring your friends! For more information contact Drew dstockstill@morningsidepc.org.
CHILDREN’S CLASSES
The Preschool Class will discuss the way people are to care for God's world as they respond to Take Good Care of My World! Younger and older elementary classes will hear Isaiah's message that God will renew and restore God's people.
