THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION Eternal God, with our trust in you, we need fear nothing. Yet we live timidly rather than boldly. As your called people, we should be a light to the world. But we choose instead to live unto ourselves. As the recipients of great good news, we should be exuberant in our sharing. Instead we politely discuss it. We have sinned, and we need your forgiveness. Cast out our complacency and re- place it with enthusiasm, O God. Call us, empower us, use us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON Leader: When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. People: And because you are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” Leader: So you are no longer a slave, but a child, and if a child, then also an heir, through God. Believe the Promise of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Galatians 4:4-7
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 9) O come, desire of nations, bind all peoples in one heart and mind; bid envy, strife, and discord cease; fill the whole world with heaven’s peace. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!
