people. Let us walk in the light of the Lord. Amen.

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 6 Jesus Comes with Clouds Descending

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O Lord, we do not know how to seek you. If we place our trust in worldly ways,
we are left comfortless. If we seek to place ourselves in your place, we find your
ways inscrutable, and our understanding is confused. Our sin obscures our
knowledge of your goodness and mercy. Our transgressions cloud our vision of
your holiness. And yet, we seek you because you have first sought us. So with
confidence we confess our sin, knowing you will forgive us, cleanse us, and redirect
us. Set our eyes on your ways and our feet on your paths, for the sake of Jesus
Christ. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who though he was in the form
of God did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied
himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in
human form, he humbled himself, and became obedient to the point of death, even
death on a cross.
People: Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave him the name that is
above every name, so that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Leader: Believe the Promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Philippians 2:5-11

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 9)
O come, Thou Root of Jesse’s tree, an ensign of Thy people be; before Thee rulers silent
fall; all peoples on Thy mercy call. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee,
O Israel.

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
