Baron Mullis preaching - "Repentance, Discipleship and Fishing"

Texts:  Isiah 9:1-4;Matthew 4:12-23

BAPTISMS THIS SUNDAY
The following will receive the sacrament of baptism today: Benjamin Riggins Bradway, son of Ali and Jon Bradway; Elizabeth Belle O’Brien, daughter of Emily and Eric O’Brien; and Lawton Davis Williams, son of Jennifer and Jason Williams.
SERVICE MUSIC
Sir Charles Villiers Stanford, 1852-1924, was an organist, composer, music professor, and conductor. He was educated at the University of Cambridge as well as in Leipzig and Berlin. In 1882 he was one of the founding professors of the Royal College of Music, Trinity College, Cambridge, where he taught composition the rest of his life. He wrote a substantial number of pieces for organ, but is best remembered for his choral works for church performance. His ashes are buried in Westminster Abbey.
"Land of Rest" is an old folk tune, possibly of Scottish or North England origin. It is #522 in the hymnal. The hymn-text, "O Zion Haste," was written by Mary Ann Thomson in 1868. She wrote it as a missionary hymn. It was published in 1892 with the tune "Tidings," written by the Englishman James Walch in 1875.  This hymn is not in the Presbyterian Hymnal.
MPC SERVICE OF WHOLENESS AND HEALING
Praying for others is a foundation of our Christian faith that we draw from our roots in Judaism. Praying with and for one another is what
Jesus calls us to do. Some seasons of our lives are harder than others. MPC will have a wholeness and healing service tonight at 7 p.m. Come and let your church family surround you with love and prayer. Child care is provided.
YOUTH GROUP
Youth Group continues 5-7 p.m. Registrations for the “Youth Track” mission camp, July 21-25, are due next Sunday, February 2 (completed 6th and older). Mission Camp registration forms for 2nd-5th graders will be available starting February 1.
WOMEN'S ROUNDTABLE
Women's Roundtable will meet at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, January 27 at the home of Lynn Young (277 The Prado NE, 30309). We will enjoy dinner as we welcome Leslie Grant, MPC member and newly sworn in to the Atlanta School Board, as our speaker.  RSVP to rsbrownlee1046@att.net.
LGBT & FRIENDS
LGBT & Friends upcoming program "Marriage Equality in the Church" will be facilitated by Baron Mullis. The discussion, including dinner, will be this Tuesday, January 28 from 7-9 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. All are welcome. RSVP to lgbtandfriends @morningsidepc.org.
LENTEN MISSION TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS
The trip cost is $225 for lodging at the Brent House Hotel with two lunches and two dinners included. Give checks made payable to MPC to trip leader Roland Behm roland.behm@gmail.com.
by next Sunday, February 2.
THEOLOGY ON TAP
The next TOT will be hosted by David Wingert on Tuesday, February 4 at 7 p.m. RSVP to the church office office@morningsidepc.org.

SEASON OF SERVICE

Season of Service is a month of challenging you and your friends to participate in the variety of mission work MPC is involved with. Find time to check out a new outreach or bring an old friend or new member with you as you help out - meet the Plus 1 challenge!  MPC hopes you will get connected while helping those in need. Many pre-season outreaches have taken place. See the marshmallows piling up in each outreach’s mug with your names on them.
We officially kick off the event next Sunday, February 2 with the youth collecting the annual Souper Bowl offering (please bring $2). MPC's offering will go to the Atlanta Community Food Bank to fight hunger in our metropolitan area. We will continue to highlight outreaches and provide opportunities to volunteer throughout the month.
KICK OFF SUNDAY
RSVP for congregational lunch where you may find shepherds wearing Ask Me buttons to answer questions about their outreach.
MPC OUTREACH T-SHIRT
Be sure to pick yours up on February 2.
TOUR OUTREACH LOCATIONS
Plan to join tours of two of our outreaches on Wednesday, February 5 and/or Tuesday, February 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. After meeting in Room 107, we will carpool to locations to learn more about them - February 5 is Journey Shelter for men and Shearith Israel Shelter for Women and on February 11 is Clifton Sanctuary Ministries and Threads clothing for children.  RSVP to Melinda msandkam@morningsidepc.org to reserve your spot.

VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT CARDS
We invite you to donate a $10 gift card to CVS, Target, Publix, etc., as a Valentine’s gift for the women at Shearith Israel Shelter for Women. Place the gift cards in the bag on the mission bulletin board by Sunday, February 9 so they can be delivered with love - and cards made by kids - in time for February 14.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Our annual spring Habitat build begins February 22.  Watch for those in hard hats today at Fellowship Hour to sign up to build on one of six Saturdays or to help with lunch on Saturday, March 29. Contact shepherd Lynsley Tyler with questions lynsley@bellsouth.net.
OUR HOUSE PRESCHOOL
Our House is a Decatur preschool that serves children facing homelessness. A great way to participate in this mission outreach is to attend their fundraiser at Piedmont Estate and Gardens on Saturday,
February 22, at 6:30 p.m. The evening will include dinner, drinks, and entertainment along with a silent/live auction and wine/whisky tasting. Visit www.ourhousega.org to purchase tickets.  MPC Young Adults are especially invited to volunteer at the event as a service activity. Sign up with Katye Watts katyemae@gmail.com.
2014-2015 SCHOOL REGISTRATION
Registration for currently enrolled families and MPC members has begun. Download the necessary forms at http://www.morningsidepc.org/preschool/registration_procedure.html and submit your application by February 2. Open registration begins on February 3.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

SUNDAY MORNING SEASON OF SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES AT 9:45 A.M.
