WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY...Welcome to worship
at Morningside Presbyterian Church. Please complete
the information in the Friendship Pad at the
end of the pews and pass the pads down and back
again during the Concerns portion of worship.
Worship notebooks and books for children are located
in the library. Nursery for infants and toddlers
is in Room 105; 2 year olds are in Room 012. Children
ages 3-10 are invited to leave after the Peace
of Christ for special classes: Threes and fours -
Room 011; K-1st grade - Room 003; 2nd-3rd grade
- Room 001; 4th-5th grade - in worship.

SERVICE MUSIC...All the music in worship today
is by English composers. Sir Walford Davies, 1869-
1941, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, 1872-1958, attended
the Royal College of Music, where they
were both students of Parratt and Stanford. Davies
was organist-choirmaster at the Temple Church,
London, 1898-1923, and organist at St. George's,
Windsor, from 1924 until his death. "Solemn Melody"
is a transcription of his piece originally written
for organ and orchestra. Vaughan Williams was a
professor of composition at the Royal College of
Music as well as conductor of the London Bach
Choir. "Rhosymedre," a Welsh hymn tune, is his
best known organ work. These two composers primarily
wrote orchestral and choral music. John
Stanley, 1713-1786, a blind musician, was born and
died in London. In 1734 he was appointed organist
at the Temple Church and in 1782 became organist
at the Chapel Royal. He wrote three sets of organ
voluntaries, pieces to be played primarily after the
reading of the psalm. Thomas Morley was a prominent
English composer and organist of the Renaissance
- in addition to sacred and liturgical music,
such as the falsobordone setting of the Song of
Simeon we sing today as the choral response, he is
primarily famous for his large output of madrigals in
the Italian style.

SOUPER BOWL OFFERING...Today, youth will
collect money in soup pots following worship as a
part of the Souper Bowl of Caring, a nationwide effort
to raise funds for local charities. Later that evening,
youth will gather for a “1st Half” Super Bowl
Party hosted by the Attwood’s. 2014 Youth Group
is starting off as a busy year of new and “tried-andtrue”
events for Morningside Youth!

LENTEN MISSION TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS…
MPC will work with RHINO (Rebuilding Hope in
New Orleans) March 12-16. The trip cost is $225
for lodging at the Brent House Hotel with two
lunches and two dinners included. Give checks
made payable to MPC to trip leader Roland Behm
roland.behm@gmail.com by today, February 2.

THEOLOGY ON TAP...The next TOT will be
hosted by David Wingert this Tuesday, February 4
at 7 p.m. RSVP to the church office office
@morningsidepc.org.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING...There will be a
congregational meeting following 11 a.m. worship
on February 9. The purpose of this meeting is to
hear the budget approved by the Session.

COUPLES GROUP...On Friday, February 14,
everyone is invited to gather with the Couples
Group at the home of Jim and Pat Antenucci (5420
Trentham Court, Dunwoody) at 7 p.m. The main
course will be provided. Please bring a side or dessert
and your favorite beverage. We will collect non
-perishable food items for the Intown Collaborative

Registration for currently enrolled families and
MPC members has begun. Download the necessary

your application today. Open registration begins tomorrow,
February 3.

Season of Service

Season of Service is a month of challenging you and your friends to participate in the variety
of mission work MPC is involved with. Find time to check out a new outreach or bring an old
friend or new member with you as you help out - meet the Plus 1 challenge! MPC hopes you
will get connected while helping those in need. Many pre-season outreaches have taken place.
We officially kick off the event today with the youth collecting the annual Souper Bowl offering
as you leave the sanctuary. MPC's offering will go to the Atlanta Community Food Bank to
fight hunger in our metropolitan area.

KICK OFF LUNCH...All are welcome downstairs for lunch where you may find shepherds
wearing Ask Me buttons to answer questions about their outreach. You are welcome to
sit anywhere, but if there is an outreach you want to learn about, seek out their table.

MPC OUTREACH T-SHIRT...There are t-shirts for everyone! Children, youth, ladies fitted,
and long sleeves. Choose yours today from the stage display.

FAMILY SERVICE EVENT...RSVP by this Wednesday to attend the Family Service Event
next Saturday, February 8. Parents and children are invited to this hands-on service event that
begins at MPC at 10 a.m., includes lunch and ends at Intown Collaborative Ministries Food
Pantry at 2 p.m.

GIGI'S PLAYHOUSE...This month the preschool community will donate items to support
Gigi's Playhouse, a Down Syndrome education center located in Amsterdam Walk. The cause is one near
and dear to our Pre-K teacher's heart and we are excited to come together as a community to support such
important work to enrich the lives of young ones with Down Syndrome. We are donating supplies such as
Clorox wipes, tissues, baby wipes and hand sanitizer. Bring to baskets in Welcome Center by February 12
Preschool Chapel date.

TOUR OUTREACH LOCATIONS...Plan to join tours of two of our outreaches this Wednesday, February
5 and/or Tuesday, February 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. After meeting in Room 107, we will carpool to
locations to learn more about them - February 5 is Journey Shelter for men and Shearith Israel Shelter for
Women and on February 11 is Clifton Sanctuary Ministries and Threads clothing for children. RSVP to

SENIOR WORKDAY...On Saturday, February 15 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. we will work with the HOMES organization
to help elderly folks stay in their homes by doing minor repairs and yard work. Sign up on the
mission bulletin board or contact Lloyd Prince lloydprince@comcst.net or Jack Klotz jacksklotz
@gmail.com. Experience is not necessary…your tasks will be assigned according to skill level, and tools
will be provided (bring work gloves and a water bottle).

VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT CARDS...We invite you to donate a $10 gift card to CVS, Target, Publix,
etc., as a Valentine’s gift for the women at Shearith Israel Shelter. Place gift cards in the mission bulletin
board bag by February 9, so they can be delivered with love-and cards made by kids-in time for February 14.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY...Our annual spring Habitat build begins February 22. See the bulletin board
in the Welcome Center and Fellowship Hall to sign up to build on one of six Saturdays or to help with lunch

OUR HOUSE PRESCHOOL...a Decatur preschool that serves children facing homelessness is offering a
great way to participate in their mission outreach by attending their fundraiser at Piedmont Estate and Gardens
on Saturday, February 22, at 6:30 p.m. (includes dinner, drinks, and entertainment with a silent/live

SUNDAY MORNING SEASON OF SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES AT 9:45 A.M.
Next Sunday, February 9, we will welcome John Blevins, Associate Research Professor at the Rollins
School of Public Health at Emory University. John's current research and practice examines the intersections
between religion and public health and development in domestic and international contexts,
particularly in Kenya. He will share about his work and experiences, as well as give us new ways to
think about God's mission in the world through faith and public health.

CHILDREN’S CLASSES
The Pre-K class will learn how Jesus helped a man who couldn't walk as they listen to Get Up and
Walk! The K-1 and 2nd-3rd classes will read Matthew 5:38-48 in which Jesus teaches that God's
Kingdom demands a radical love for all people. 4th & 5th Graders will be in worship.
