13th Sunday in Ordinary Time
9:30 a.m. Coffee and Conversation
9:45 a.m. Church School for all ages
This Sunday, June 30, we continue with guest speaker Melanie Johnson for Part 2 of Esther: Behind the Mask. Melanie Johnson is a recent graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. student at Claremont School of Theology. No special knowledge is required, and no questions are bad questions. All are welcome in Room 201 at 9:45 a.m.
Children: Today the Preschool class will learn how Eli helped young Samuel hear God in the story Samuel, Samuel! Elementary grades will learn that it is not the size of the gift but the heart of the giver that is important as they read the story of the woman who gave all she had to God.
11:00 a.m. Worship / Sing with Choir
Rev. Dr. Baron Mullis Preaching
"For Freedom"
Texts: Galatians 5:1, 13-25; Luke 9:51-62
12:00 p.m. Fellowship
7:30 p.m. Meditation Group
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
"Trouble knocked at the door, but, hearing laughter, hurried away." - Benjamin Franklin
SING WITH THE CHOIR-THIS SUNDAY, JUNE 30
Look to see some of your fellow MPC members up in the chancel this Sunday, as they join as guests of the choir for this annual event. We will have a full house in the choir loft, and these guests will have rehearsed the anthem and final choral response. All participants that have registered for this event, please join the choir in Fellowship Hall this Wednesday night for a 7:30 p.m. rehearsal.
ICM FOOD PANTRY
Volunteers are needed to help sort food for Intown Collaborative Ministries' food pantry this Saturday, June 29 from 10:30 to 1 p.m at Briarcliff Methodist Church (Ponce and Briarcliff). If you can help, please sign up on the mission bulletin board or contact Nancy Collins ncollins0209@gmail.com.
VBS THANKS
The 55 children who attended VBS last week are grateful for the many friends, members, staff and volunteers who participated to make this event happen. We couldn't do it without you!
CONGRATULATIONS WALTER HUFF
Walter has accepted an appointment to the Jacobs School of Music faculty at Indiana University as an associate professor of Choral Conducting. This full-time appointment means that Walter's tenure as Organist/Choirmaster at Morningside will conclude on Sunday, August 18. We will have many opportunities to express our gratitude to Walter for his 25 years of service. Walter is advising our Human Resources team as we seek an interim director of music, and a committee has been selected by HR to seek Walter's successor (Tami Giusto, Julie Green, Philip Hawkins, Bill Humphries, Rob Payne, Caroline Tanner, Trenton Tunnell, Sheryl Wingert, with Baron as an ex-officio member).
SUMMER FELLOWSHIP HOUR
We need some help in August with Fellowship Hour. Fellowship is a snap if there are four people to provide a sweet, a savory, something fresh and punch. If you can provide any one of these things on August 4, 11 or 19, please contact Daniel Easton at dje567@ymail.com.
WELCOME HOME BASKETS
We continue our collection of essential household goods to assemble baskets for the men of Clifton when they move into a new home. Please see the Welcome Center display for more information and bring your items in by July 14.
MISSION CAMP
Our fifth year of It's Not All About Me Mission Camp is July 22-26, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, with an overnight adventure to Len Foote Hike Inn on Thursday. With daily outings, we need lots of volunteers and dedicated overnight leaders who are willing to hike in and out to Len Foote. If you can help out, contact Melinda Sandkam.
SAVE THE DATE
It's not too soon to mark off October 25-27 on your calendar and plan to get away to cool and lovely Montreat, NC, for our fifth annual all-church retreat featuring speaker Tom Long! Each year, it's been an event to remember for the whole family. Watch for details in the next couple of months.
