THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
I am an expression of the divine, just like a peach is, just like a fish is. I have a right to be this way...I can't apologize for that, nor can I change it, nor do I want to...We will never have to be other than who we are in order to be successful...We realize that we are as ourselves unlimited and our experiences valid. It is for the rest of the world to recognize this, if they choose. - Alice Walker, The Color Purple
LGBT & FRIENDS
LGBT & Friends welcomes representatives from CHRIS Kids, Lost-n-Found Youth and SAGE to facilitate its program, "Giving Back to Others" tomorrow night, November 19. The meeting, including dinner, will be at the home of Rob Payne, (1100 Balmoral Drive 30319) at 7 p.m. All are welcome. RSVP to lgbtandfriends@morningsidepc.org.
THIRD THURSDAY THEOLOGY
It's time to start a new book! We've settled on Frederick Buechner's classic, Wishful Thinking, A Theological ABC. It's a great time to start a twentieth century classic - with a new format. We'll read the entries aloud and stop for discussion. Here's what the New York Times book review said when it was published in 1972, "The core element of what C.S. Lewis called 'mere Christianity' de-pompoused and de-pietized." Join us at noon this Thursday in the Session Room for learning and discussion led by Baron Mullis. Bring a lunch if you wish.
FOOD TRUCKS
This Thursday, November 21, we will enjoy one last Food Truck event of the year from 5 to 8 p.m. Beat the sunset and join us early. There will be free S'mores! Spread the word to your neighbors. This is an easy stop on the way home to grab dinner. Contact Drew Stockstill to help with setup or cleanup.
PREPARE A DISH FOR THOSE IN NEED
This Saturday, November 23 MPC will serve the evening meal to the men staying at Clifton Sanctuary Ministries. Sign up on the Mission bulletin board to provide a dish and/or serve that evening, or contact shepherd David Johnston dmjohnst@gmail.com to find out specific needs.
ANNUAL CANNED FOOD COLLECTION
Our annual collection of non-perishable items for the Atlanta Community Food Bank is in full swing! Mac 'n cheese, peanut butter, canned veggies, meats, fruits and low sugar whole grain cereals are welcome. Help us fill our five canisters as we enjoy an abundance ourselves throughout the holidays.
YOUNG ADULTS
Following worship, this Sunday, November 24 the Young Adults will meet for lunch at George's (1041 N. Highland Ave. NE, 404.892.3648). Email Drew Stockstill if you would like to come.
FREE HOLIDAY BABYSITTING
Tis the season of giving! Do you have two to four hours to give on Monday, December 2 (4:40-6:40 p.m., 6:20-8:20 p.m. or 4:40-8:05 p.m.)? We will offer free babysitting to our community for children 3 months through 5th grade. (Little ones MUST sign up by Monday, November 25.) Help us line up volunteers for the event BEFORE the Thanksgiving holiday by signing up this week. To register your child or to volunteer, contact Jennifer James jennjames@comcast.net today!
CHARLES DICKENS "A CHRISTMAS CAROL" AND THE BIBLE
Get into the Christmas spirit this year with the joint adult education class led by Drew and Ellen Stockstill and Joseph Brady. This class will be held each Sunday in December in Room 201 at 9:45 a.m. All are invited to join us and to bring your friends! For more information contact Drew.
TALK BACK TO THE PREACHER
If you've ever wanted to ask Baron more about something he's preached, or to hear what scripture teaches about something, and you don't happen to find yourself in a class or have the right moment, you are invited to come to Room 201 following worship on Sunday, December 8. We can talk about whatever you want to talk about - the sermon, the way we plan worship, what's going on in the Presbytery, or whatever! This is your chance.
